India could be in line to host the Commonwealth Games for the first time after declaring it had the full support of its Government for a bid from Delhi for the 2010 Games.
The Commonwealth Games Federation yesterday also received presentations from Canada and Singapore expressing interest in staging the 2010 Games.
The Canadian delegation at the federation's general assembly meeting in Manchester said it had five cities vying to be the nation's bid, while Singapore's Government was undergoing an evaluation process before deciding whether to give its support.
The official bidding process will begin in May next year, with the vote taken in October at the federation's meeting in Jamaica.
Yesterday's meeting also received a presentation from the Melbourne 2006 Games delegation.
