New Zealander Brent Newdick held on for fourth in the decathlon last night to complete a satisfying debut on the big stage.
Newdick recorded personal bests in the 110m hurdles (14.87s) and the discus (41.92m) and an equal personal best in the pole vault (4.70m) yesterday. His total of 7566 points was a long way behind the 8001 of third-placed Australian Jason Dudley.
Dean Macey of England won with 8143 points.
