Commonwealth Games: Stanley and Main miss out in the pool

Matthew Stanley and Corey Main were unable to medal in the pool at the Commonwealth Games this morning.

Stanley lost out in the men's 200m freestyle final, while Main came up short in the 100m backstroke.

In the 200m freestyle, Australians Thomas Fraser-Holmes and Cameron McEvoy took gold and silver respectively, while Wales' Calum Jarvis claimed bronze.

Stanely, swimming in lane two, finished in seventh spot.

Main finished in sixth position in the 100m backstroke with a time of 54.40, while England's Chris Walker-Hebborn took gold in a Games-record time of 53.12.

Meanwhile, Glenn Snyders qualified for the men's 100m breaststroke final after finishing second in his semifinal behind England's Adam Peaty. Snyders' time was only 0.4 of a second off his national record.

The final will be raced tomorrow morning NZT.

In other action, Nikita Howarth finished fifth in the final of the women's para 100m freestyle S8 final.

The men's 4 x 100 freestyle relay quartet of Matthew Stanley, Corey Main, Steve Kent and Ewan Jackson finished seventh in the final. Australia won the event comfortably, while South Africa and England took silver and bronze respectively.
