Kiwi weightlifter David Liti didn't just leave the Gold Coast with a gold medal but something even rarer.
He was given the David Dixon Award for outstanding sporting spirit last night's closing ceremony.
After his medal ceremony in the Men's 105kg+ weightlifting, Liti offered to assist his Samoan rival who was left in a wheelchair after injuring himself in his final lift in the clean and jerk.
The award has been handed out at every Commonwealth Games since 2002. He is the first New Zealand to receive the award.
