And caught in a moment of "really, really bad luck", as Georgia put it, a camera was right there to film and then broadcast her bare bum to a quarter of the world.
Eagle-eyed viewers noticed the brief camera shot and, before people had even started to leave Carrara Stadium, hundreds had posted the moment across social media. Georgia had become an internet sensation — but it wasn't the sort of social media fame most teens aspire to.
Despite Georgia admitting she knew she had "a bit of a wedgie" when she was performing, it wasn't until she came off stage and saw a meme of herself that she realised what had happened.
"The first meme I saw some man had commented saying it made him want to gouge his eyes out, so that wasn't very nice to read," she said.
Nasty comments aside, Georgia has decided to take the situation in her stride.
"My parents have always taught me that everything happens for a reason so what can you do, everyone's seen it now so there's no point hiding and having a cry, you just have to make the most of a bad moment you know?" she said.
"Obviously seeing your bum in front of 1.5 billion people isn't too nice but everyone's been really supportive and seen the funny side of it, which is nice."
And no one is seeing the funnier side more than Georgia.
Taking to Instagram earlier today, the 19-year-old turned herself into the "butt" of the joke when she posted photos of herself and fellow performers backstage at the Opening Ceremony.
"Last night I was feeling really BUMMED … BUTT that's all BEHIND me now!" she captioned the photo.
"I hope you all had a CRACKING good time watching the ceremony. Don't forget the camera adds 5kgs, yes it was me!"
Georgia has received plenty of praise after the post, and has even begun offering sage advice to anyone who might find themselves in a tricky situation.
"No matter how old or young you are, you're always going to have people trying to drag you down so just think that they're not important. You just have to get through it and everything will be fine," she said.
The opening ceremony was a divisive one, with most social media commenters ranking Georgia's cameo as the best part of the show, but the Brisbane-based dancer said she thought it was "amazing".
"It turned out so well, I don't know how anyone can think any different. We put so many hours and so much dedication into that show and I think it turned out amazing," she said.
And she harbours no ill will towards the designer of the costume.
"I felt totally comfortable in it. I haven't spoken to [the designers] but I know if they did, they'd be really sorry. It was just an accident," she said.
