Boxing New Zealand (Boxing NZ) today distanced itself from a team touted to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
It was reported on Saturday that head coach Henry Schuster had named eight boxers to fight in Melbourne in March.
However, Boxing New Zealand said it had not authorised any such release.
It said a shadow Games squad had been selected from which Boxing NZ's national executive would put forward nominations to the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
The nominations are to be discussed at a Boxing NZ executive meeting in Wellington on Thursday.
Boxers named by Schuster to compete in Melbourne were Greg Weenink, Mokai Paraha, Joe Blackbourn, Jamie and Scott Gardner, all of Wellington, Canterbury's Carl Commons and Soulan Pownceby, and Aucklander Kahukura Bentson.
