MANCHESTER - Disabled lawn bowler John Davies was last night thrown out of the Commonwealth Games for sexual harassment.
The New Zealand team said the 60-year-old was the subject of a complaint by a woman volunteer.
Davies, who has lost part of a leg, was the lead for the disabled triple team, who have withdrawn from competition.
In a statement released by team management, the Foxton Beach bowler said: "I fully regret my actions. I understand what I did was silly and embarrassing. I would like to apologise to all concerned."
Chef de mission Davie Currie made the decision after a complaint of "behaviour that falls within the domain of sexual harassment was laid against Davies by a female volunteer. The incident happened in a public area but was seen to be a serious error of judgment".
Davies and team-mates Barry Wynks and Peter Horne did not turn up to their match against Wales. Davies had competed for NZ at the 1988 Seoul Paralympics.
