Badminton Southland high performance director of coaching Thana Arikrishnan has been named coach of the New Zealand team to contest the Commonwealth Games in India.
Arikrishnan filled the vacant role as New Zealand coach at the Oceania Festival of Badminton held in Invercargill earlier this year.
Badminton Southland last year recruited the Malaysian who has previously worked with the World Badminton Federation in coaching roles.
He is currently in Auckland working with the national squad and that same group of players will also spend time training in Invercargill in the leadup to the Games, The Southland Times reported.
