An attack on a Commonwealth Games bus that injured a New Zealander has alarmed NZ team chef de mission Dave Currie.
Grant Chapman, media liaison for the Games basketball teams, was showered by glass when the bus he was in was attacked in Bendigo, a city two hours north of Melbourne.
The injury to Chapman was caused by children throwing rocks, police say.
Dave Currie told NZPA he had seen a report on the incident from security man Paul Carpenter.
"It is a worry," Currie said.
"It was just some young folks throwing bloody rocks, but it is a worry. Initially they weren't sure what it could have been.
"They are quite convinced that's all it was, nothing more sinister than that."
Chapman, 42, had a head wound dressed by a Games volunteer after the attack, about 11.30pm on Saturday.
He and a BBC journalist were the only passengers on the 40-seater unmarked bus.
"One minute I was sitting there dozing off, the next I was covered in glass," Chapman told NZPA.
"It was a bit of a fright."
A window above his head shattered and sprayed broken glass around the bus. Two other windows were also smashed.
While small holes, the size of bullet holes, were found in other parts of the bus, Chapman said he did not think the bus had been shot at.
"I didn't hear anything that sounded like a shot."
Chapman is headed back to Bendigo tonight to watch the Tall Ferns play Nigeria.
"I'll be trying not to sit near a window," he said.
