Zimbabwean-born diver Shaye Boddington has lost her bid to compete for New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games after failing to meet residency criteria.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee said its appeal to the Commonwealth Games Federation had failed because she was well short of the three years stipulated by the federation.
NZOC secretary-general Barry Maister acknowledged Boddington and her family had lived in Auckland for only 17 months, but thought she had a case for some discretion considering her family had fled persecution in their homeland.
The Zimbabwean Swimming Federation had no objection to the 16-year-old representing her adopted country.
