Environmental Scientist Paul Goldsworthy took The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton on its first trip under ice at Brown Bay, Antartica.
The baton arrives in Australia on January 24. More than 3000 relay runners will carry the baton across Australia in the final 50 days of its epic 180,000 kilometre journey from Buckingham Palace, London to the opening ceremony of the Melbourne Games.
The event starts on March 15.
