The last two winners of the premier schoolboys soccer tournament must win games today to assure themselves of places in the quarter-finals.
In pool A, last year's winners Mt Albert Grammar are on six points, equal with Christchurch and one behind leaders Palmerston North.
Mt Albert scored the biggest win yesterday when they defeated Marlborough 5-1, but they require at least a point in the clash with Palmerston North today. Christchurch have the easier game, against Wanganui.
Rangitoto, the 2000 champions, had a 1-0 win over Tawa, but today play New Plymouth, who are also on five points.
Westlake are through as the top qualifier on eight points after a 4-1 victory against New Plymouth.
In pool B, Auckland Grammar are into the quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Nelson. The second-placed team are likely to be Tauranga Boys.
Macleans College's tournament has not been a happy one. On the first day they were defeated 8-0 by Tauranga Boys and were beaten 4-0 yesterday by Shirley, and cannot make the quarter-finals.
Pool C has four teams, Wellington Collegiate, Kelston Boys, Havelock North and St Peters, on six, five and four points respectively. The key game today pits Kelston against Wellington. Kelston beat St Peters 4-1 in yesterday's game, and Hamilton scored a 5-1 win over Burnside.
