A hockey player and a rugby player were the big winners at this year's ASB College Sports Awards.
Six hundred people attended the awards at Eden Park, with 72 winners in 65 categories across 37 separate sports.
Frances Kreft and Daniela Teutau were the overall winners of the Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards for 2003.
Kreft (Diocesan) played in the first XI that won the premier national secondary schools title, the Federation Cup competition and were joint winners of the Auckland competition.
The team triumphed in the under-18 nationals and she represented her province at under-21 and senior level.
Kreft earned three under-18 caps for New Zealand against Australia and was also selected for the Black Sticks, the New Zealand women's hockey team, where she gained three international caps competing against Japan and Korea in a three nations tournament.
Teutau (De La Salle) has been an integral part the college first XV, the Auckland secondary schools' champion team.
The team won the northern region A tournament, were the Auckland secondary schools' sevens champions, semifinalists in the national secondary schools rugby championships and runners up in the Condor Sevens.
Teutau scored tries in the Auckland 1A final and also the northern region tournament and starred as halfback for the secondary school side that beat Australia last month in Australia.

NEW PROGRAMME College Sport has put together a new initiative for special needs students to have a go at sport as part of an inter-school programme.
To kick start the programme there are have a go days starting tomorrow for central and Waitakere schools at the ASB Stadium.
North Harbour will host its have a go day at the North Shore Events Centre on Friday, November 28, with Counties Manukau on Monday, December 1 at Bruce Pullman Gymsport.
A variety of activity stations from athletics, basketball, soccer and indoor hockey will be available for students.
On each activity station there will be experienced staff from Special Olympics and College Sport.
Over 100 students are expected at each of the have a go days.
