King's College handed De La Salle College their first defeat in the Auckland 1A grade, adding extra excitement to the race for the semifinals.
The 35-18 win means the teams in the second, third and fourth spots in the school rugby are now on 34 points, just three behind De La Salle.
Kelston Boys are only a further three points back and are by no means out of the race for the top four.
Auckland Grammar defeated Sacred Heart 22-0, St Paul's downed Onehunga 16-8, Otahuhu overcome Tangaroa 17-10, St Peter's travelled to Kelston and lost 20-5, and Mt Albert hosted St Kentigern and won 17-6.
In Counties, the Wesley thirds kept their four-point lead intact with a 17-10 win over James Cook. Their second XV handed Pukekohe High a 71-0 thrashing to stay in second place.
Rosehill won a tight 10-8 match against Manurewa to take third spot. Waiuku beat Papakura High 27-0.
In the North Harbour competition Massey High and Rosmini College continue to dominate.
In the latest round Massey beat Takapuna Grammar 32-10 and Rosmini accounted for Rangitoto College 27-3. Westlake and Kaipara drew 0-0 to complete the round.
KARTS
More than 100 students from over 50 schools will be racing at speeds of up to 115 km/h around the Patiki Rd Karting course for the title of Auckland schools champion.
Racing starts at 10am on Sunday, with team and individual events.
Rangitoto are the defending team champions, and Mt Albert, Avondale and St Kentigern are their main rivals.
Drivers to watch include Rangitoto's Brock Barrie, Shane Van Gisbergen of St Kents and Mitchell Osborne of Mt Albert.
NETBALL
North Harbour's top competition first-round winners were Kaipara, Carmel, Rangitoto and Westlake 1.
In Waitakere, Massey beat Waitakere College 34-21. Avondale thrased Rutherford 46-17 and Kelston Girls tipped St Dominics 27-24. Massey, the only undefeated team, lead the competition.
Manurewa High and Sir Edmund Hilary Collegiate lead the Counties and Manukau competitions.
SOCCER
Mt Albert Grammar preserved their three-point lead at the top of the premier boys' league with a 5-0 win over Onehunga High, but Auckland Grammar ensured the leaders cannot lose a game in accounting for St Peters College 4-1 and staying in contention with Mt Albert.
Westlake Boys remain in third place after a 2-0 win over King's. In the other match of the round Kelston Boys drew 2-2 at Rangitoto College.
LEAGUE
The premier first XIII champions are Kelston Boys High after their 20-10 victory over defending champs St Paul's College last week.
Marcellin College beat Aorere College 52-30 in the B final.
The College A title and the V&G Fagan Cup was shared between Waitakere College and Auckland Grammar after they drew 18-18.
The under-15 nine-a-side champions are St Paul's College after they overcame Otahuhu College 34-32.
