Auckland's St Paul's College shocked Australians by defeating Canberra's Erindale College 30-10 to progress to the final 16 of rugby league's Australian Nutri-Grain Cup.
It is the first time a New Zealand side has been invited to the tough knockout competition, which features over 400 schools around Australia.
St Paul's made their first appearance last week and will travel back to Parramatta Stadium on June 28 to take on Penrith's St Dominic's College in the curtain-raiser to the NRL Parramatta Eels-Bulldogs game.
* Hillcrest High won the Waikato premier netball competition after a comfortable 50-38 victory over defending champions Te Awamutu College.
In the B-grade final, first time grand-finalists Ngaruawahia High School kept a fast-finishing Cambridge High School at bay, winning 32-29, after comfortably leading in the first three quarters of the match.
CROSSCOUNTRY
Rangitoto College's Bozzone brothers, Dino and Terenzo, proved they were as much a force in crosscountry as they are in triathlons and duathlons by winning their respective races at the New Zealand secondary school crosscountry championships in Blenheim.
Dino held on to win the junior boys 4000m by one second from Daniel Moses of Bethlehem College in Tauranga, and older brother Terenzo, the world junior duathlon champion, used his tactical nous to pip specialist runner Max Smith from Dunedin's King's High School by the same margin in the senior boys 6000m race.
The senior girls 4000m was again dominated by South Island runners, with last year's runner-up Clare Goodwin of Temuka High School crossing the line at Lansdowne Park first. Rangitoto's Rebecca McEnaney faded after a courageous first lap to finish 13th.
Patricia Ross from Hamilton's Hillcrest High School ran a relaxed race to win the junior girls 3000m from Matamata College's Sarah Morgan and Alice Taylor from Rangitoto added to the school's medal haul, finishing third.
RUGBY
Kelston Boys High School will put the Moascar Cup on the line away from home when they tackle St Kentigern College in the curtain-raiser to the All Blacks test against Ireland on Saturday.
The West Auckland College successfully retained the trophy against Mt Albert Grammar last Saturday to remain unbeaten in the Auckland 1A secondary school championships.
HOCKEY
It has been a long time coming for Diocesan, but this proved the senior girls team's year after defeating King's College 3-1 to win the Auckland championships for the first time in 14 seasons.
Diocesan claimed the title in the best possible way, finishing the competition unbeaten with six consecutive victories. Diocesan, Epsom Girls Grammar, St Cuthbert's and Avondale College will begin their assault on the intercity title tomorrow.
NETBALL
Hillcrest High School are the Waikato premier champions after a comfortable 50-38 victory over defending champions Te Awamutu College on Monday.
