Rangitoto College students proved the fastest on two legs at the North Harbour championships - with Philip Ahlo and Leanne Cooper racing away with the 100m double.
James Lesson of Rosmini and Jenna Wilkins of Kristin won the boys' and girls' 1500m titles, Nick Gibson from Westlake Boys and Katie King of Kristin the 800m, and Graham Dos Santos of Rosmini and Evelyn Taylor of Rangitoto took the 3000m crowns.
The 4x100m relays went to Westlake Boys and Kaipara College. In the high jump, David Waites and Gina Franks made it a Takapuna Grammar double, while the Westlakes did the same in the long jump through Steve Harris and Natalie Turner.
Sebastien Suani and Lipe Kaloni did Birkenhead College proud in winning the senior shot put titles, while Foalima Barse (Rosmini) and Keri McNaughton (Birkenhead) threw best in the discus.
Tutaia Tutaia (Birkenhead) and Kiersten Reid (Kaipara) won the javelin.
Reid highlighted her all-round ability in taking out the triple jump as well, Israel Bediako winning the boys' event.
Across the bridge, Junior Mananoa from Kelston Boys and Kiri Kendall from Auckland Girls were two of the stars at the Auckland Champion of Champions meet.
Mananoa broke the senior boys' shot put record with 15.93m and also won the discus.
Chassey Davids (Liston College) won the 100m-200m senior boys' double and added the long jump title for good measure.
WATERPOLO
Westlake Boys High are the North Island waterpolo champions.
They beat Wellington College 13-12 in a penalty shootout when scores were tied after extra time.
In the bronze medal match, Rosmini beat Sacred Heart 11-9, also after extra time.
Auckland schools took seven of the top eight places.
The trend continued in the girls' tournament, with Epsom Girls, though beaten by Sacred Heart Lower Hutt 4-2 in the final, leading the Auckland charge.
Westlake Girls beat Diocesan 4-3 in the bronze medal match, and Auckland schools took six of the top eight placings.
TRIATHLON
The Auckland secondary schools championships at Maraetai provided a day of exciting race finishes and crashes.
The 94 individual competitors and 35 three-person teams combined to ensure a dramatic day of racing and a good lead-in to the New Zealand championships in Taupo in two weeks.
The senior girls' race was a battle between Anna Hamilton (Rangitoto College) and Jaqui Seebold (Diocesan School).
The lead changed a number of times in the last 20m to 30m, with Seebold winning with a time difference of just hundredths of a second.
In the senior boys' race, Tim MacIntosh, the defending titleholder from Auckland Grammar, came in 3s ahead of William Curtayne (St Kentigern) and 7s ahead of St Peters College's Thomas Hahn.
