"When I went away to America, that was when I could get to picture myself on the world stage.
"The competition was far more intense. It was a wake-up call for me."
That wake-up call usually comes before 5am and she is up and out the door before her family is fully awake.
She has made great strides in the heptathlon, a seven-event sport she took up recently.
Eady trains at the Waitakere club under former decathlete Kieran McKee, a jumps coach whom she has worked with for nearly 10 years. She says he is like a second father to her.
Events in the heptathlon are the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m sprint, long jump, javelin, and 800m.
Eady admits she is a sprinter and loves the long jump, so she has to work on her "weaker" disciplines, the shot put and the 800m.
"I'm not the strongest person in the world. I don't have the biggest muscles, so shot put is where I struggle. The 800m is just fitness. It's quite hard to be able to separate them all.
With sprinting you need that strength and speed but then you lose that when you are training fitness. Balancing it out is quite difficult."
And javelin?
"I love javelin. I feel like a soldier going off to war when I throw it. It's very technical.
"The 800m is down to the adrenaline and determination you have at the end of the day, because you are knackered by then. You feel like you are dying but then when you finish you feel like you're reborn.
"The hurdles is probably emotionally the event I really struggle with because I have fallen quite a few times. That's when you test your mental strength."
Eady went into heptathlon thinking one event could cover most of the disciplines in which she excels. And it has worked out for her.
She has won three medals at the Auckland schools' Champion of Champions, broken the St Cuthbert's long jump record and is the intermediate college champion.
All she needs to do now is gain her drivers' licence so her parents do not have to taxi her around Auckland and she doesn't have to use public transport to get to training.
Her full days are getting fuller with up to 20 hours a week training, so she has stopped playing hockey to focus on her goals.
"When I have those moments when training is hard and I feel terrible, I think of one thing my mother taught me when I was little - 'Pain is temporary, glory is forever'."
