Olympic Games marathon bronze medallist Barry Magee and former Auckland representative Mike Gallagher had plenty of influence at the Auckland road championships, as Mt Roskill Grammar runners made a clean sweep of individual honours in the boys' grades.

Andrew Haigh won the senior 6.4km event in 22m 13s.
He led throughout for his first schools victory. Tim MacIntosh of Auckland Grammar beat Cameron Bennetts of Howick College for third.
Malcolm Hicks won the intermediate 5.3km in 18m 34s and Fetalow Zomo headed off Thomas Hood of King's in the junior 3.6km.
Chanel Williamson of Baradene won the senior girls' 5.3km in 20m 50s with Elizabeth Orchard of Epsom Girls second and St Cuthbert's Sophie Wood third.
Diocesan's Kate Campbell was a comfortable winner in the intermediate race and Kirsten Montgomery of Rangitoto College held out Charlotte Forster of Diocesan to win the junior 3.6km.
CYCLING Bodies will be aching at the New Zealand individual champs in Mt Wellington this weekend as students compete in the criterium, hill and time trial races.
Of note will be the hill climb, over 800m, up Mt Wellington. The top time for this race is 1m 45s. The time trial record is held by Terenzo Bozzone in 11m 55s over the 8km stage.
This year is the first time entries have exceeded 300 with competitors having to race in all three events to win the title.
Two of the favourites in the boys' events are William Thompson and Jared Bowden, both from Auckland Grammar, while Diocesan students are expected to feature in the girls' placings in all grades.
SQUASH
Auckland Grammar and New Plymouth Girls High confirmed their pre-tournament favouritism, winning their respective titles at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Squash Champs.
New Plymouth Girls made short work of their final at the Henderson Squash Club on Sunday afternoon, romping to a 5-0 victory over second seeds Diocesan.
Auckland Grammar, however, was made to work harder in the boys' event, claiming a 3-2 victory over defending champions Tawa.
RUGBY
Auckland Grammar took top spot in the 1A competition by beating St Paul's and earning a home semi against Kelston Boys who defeated Tangaroa College 28-5. De La Salle finished third after defeating St Kentigern 36-0 and will travel to Mt Albert Grammar, who won the big match of the round against King's 30-6. This result sent King's to fifth place and out of contention.
NETBALL
Auckland Girls proved too strong for Epsom Girls, winning 32-19. Aorere beat Dio, Mt Roskill Grammar pipped Baradene by three and Macleans, Howick and St Mary's also won.
Carmel Marist lost their unbeaten record in the North Harbour competition after going down 32-17 to Westlake Girls. Orewa College accounted for Takapuna Grammar 38-23, Kaipara beat Westlake Girls 2 by 13 goals and Rangitoto College overwhelmed Mahurangi College by 24 points.
In West Auckland, Avondale College drew 25-all with St Dominic's and Massey High beat Rutherford High 39-16. Kelston Girls pipped Waitakere College by two. In the Counties Manukau senior playoffs, Manurewa beat Otahuhu College by 20-10 and Te Kapunga/James Cook High downed Adventist 28-16.
Manurewa beat Mangere 33-23 in the premier playoffs and the closest match of the afternoon was Pukekohe's one-point win over Hilary.
The premier final will be between Manurewa and Pukekohe. In their regular season match, Pukekohe went down by six.
