Auckland Grammar head the 1st XV points table after giving newcomers Macleans a lesson on how things are done in the top grade.
Grammar won 63-13 to remain undefeated at the top of the points table after eight games. Mt Albert Grammar beat Kelston Boys 9-8, which puts Mt Albert equal with Kelston on 28.
In other games, Tangaroa beat St Pauls 36-0, King's beat Otahuhu 37-3, St Peter's defeated Sacred Heart 20-16 and defending champs De La Salle moved into second place by beating Onehunga 33-11.
Lacrosse
Westlake Girls and Auckland Girls Grammar were forced into extra time to decide the Auckland title.
The score was 10-10 at fulltime, but Westlake were on form with some fine shooting and won 13-11, taking the Romey Schofield Cup.
The teams meet again at the northern regional tournament in Whangarei on Friday.
Clay target shooting
Matamata High will be gunning for their second consecutive title in the North Island finals this weekend in the Waikato. But Waiuku College and King's want the title too.
Waiuku won last week's Roy Lloyd Memorial Shield title at the interschool event held at Matamata with a score of 284 out of 300.
Waiuku finished four points ahead of King's, whose lineup includes national junior ISSF trap champion Jonathan Faasse and Duncan Wight and Toby Nicholl, who will both compete at the World Open DTL Championships in England in a fortnight.
Soccer
A hard-fought 1-1 draw with Rangitoto has kept King's in the hunt for a playoff in the A1 1st XI stakes.
The team will need to lift their performance this Saturday against St Peter's, who were thumped 8-1 by Mt Albert Grammar. Mt Albert lead the competition on 21 points.
Westlake, who beat Avondale 3-0, are second on 20. Auckland Grammar, who accounted for Kelston 7-2, are third on 16 but have a game in hand. The big match this weekend is Mt Albert at home to Westlake at noon.
Hockey
The top grades in Auckland began last week with 10 teams split into two pools of five. Crossover playoffs will then determine the championship winners.
Last year both titles were shared - the girls between Diocesan and Rangitoto and boys between King's and Rangitoto.
Pool A for the boys includes Auckland Grammar, Rangitoto, Massey, Pukekohe and St Kentigern. Pool B is King's, Macleans, Mahurangi, Rosehill and Westlake.
The girls' pool A is Rangitoto, Diocesan, St Cuthberts, Rosehill and Kristin. Pool B includes Macleans, Westlake, Carmel, Waiuku and Epsom Girls Grammar.

Teams wanting to play interschool badminton in the North Harbour region are pushing the association's capacity to the limit.
