AEROBICS
Howick College and St Kentigern dominated the Auckland aerobics championships leaping away with one individual and one team title each. Avondale College dominated the junior sections with three individual titles.
Held at Selwyn College, the energy flowed as more than 60 competitors hit the floor in what is a steadily growing event.
Howick dominated the Level 1 individual and teams events with Jamie Kilmartin winning from schoolmate Julie Churchill and Avondale's Monique Gasson in third.
The Pink Ladies from Howick won the team title from Avondale College and Epsom Girls third.
Charlotte Moor of St Kentigern won the Level 2 event from Epsom Girls student Suzanne Ainsworth.
The Level 3 individual winner was Charlotte Bean from Diocesan.
Avondale cleaned up the junior categories as Honor Lock and Samantha Donaldson won the A and B sections respectively.
RUGBY
After a weekend of big scores Auckland Grammar still lead the Auckland competition after scoring a 37-15 victory over Kelston Boys.
Tangaroa accounted for Onehunga 49-21 while Mt Albert defeated St Peters 41-8 and Kings beat St Pauls 26-10. Defending champions De La Salle stayed in contention with a five-point win over Otahuhu and Sacred Heart secured a rare victory to defeat Macleans 19-7.
The big match this Saturday is the very local derby between Auckland Grammar and St Peters who can see each other from across the Southern Motorway.
De La Salle against Tangaroa should also be a fiercely competitive match.
SOCCER
Bottom-placed Avondale almost caused the upset of the season in the A1 competition by holding third-placed Auckland Grammar to a 1-1 draw.
Avondale have had only one win out of 10 games this season and eight losses. With the draw they are now on four points.
Grammar have 20 points from nine matches including six wins, one loss and two draws.
Auckland Grammar will have to watch out again this weekend as they take on fourth-placed St Peters who had a 3-1 victory over Kelston Boys.
Mt Albert, who thrashed second-to-bottom Rangitoto 8-0, are still top. Westlake are second on 21 points after a draw with King's.
In girls soccer the greater Auckland competitions start this afternoon.
CRICKET
Significant changes are coming to secondary schools cricket.
A relationship has been struck between Auckland and North Harbour secondary schools cricket associations and the Auckland cricket association which in theory will involve more co-operation and allow players in their fifth year of high school to also play club cricket.
In return clubs will be required to assist schools, where necessary, to train players and coaches.
There will also be an aligning of the club and school calendars to allow for ease and transition between club and schools.
