Competitor numbers in the Auckland secondary schools aquathon championships have exploded in the second year.
This year 91 individuals and 54 teams took part in the swim/run event held at Long Bay.
Glendowie College won both the junior and senior boys' team events, beating Rangitoto College into second place in the seniors.
In the senior girls' event, Rangitoto College head girl Anna Hamilton won by eight seconds from Diocesan's Jacqui Seebold. Samantha Gunther from Rangitoto College was third for the second year.
St Kentigern secured a quinella in the senior boys with Nathan Saunders winning his first Auckland multisport title. Saunders was followed by last year's winner and team-mate Michael Kraakman with Rangitoto's Ben Visser third.
The intermediate girls' competition was dominated by Rangitoto College, which took out four of the top five places while Adam Westwood from St Kentigern won the boys' just ahead of Auckland Grammar's Matt Burbury-King and Mathew Mildenhall.
KILIKITI
Avondale College claimed the Auckland senior A boys' title by defeating Tangaroa College in the final held at the Auckland Domain.
Avondale played four quality games for their title. The girls' A-grade final had McAuley College beating Kelston Girls.
The B-grade boys was a victory to Onehunga over Massey in the final. The Massey girls gave their school a title by accounting for Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate in the B final.
LACROSSE
Five Auckland students have been selected in the New Zealand women's squad to play Japan in Auckland next month.
They are also in line for selection for senior nationals tournament in Australia in July and for the New Zealand juniors, to be picked at the completion of the secondary schools tournament in Auckland in July. The students are Claire Wilson and Rachel Bunce (Avondale College), Natalie Turner (Westlake Girls), Lauren McClain and Grace Keown (Auckland Girls Grammar).
TENNIS
Round two of the A1 grade competitions saw some big wins in the senior grade.
St Kentigern secured a four-point lead over St Cuthbert's in the girls' competition courtesy of an 8-1 win over Diocesan.
In the boys' grade Kings and Westlake beat St Peters and Macleans College respectively, both 9-0. Kings College are three points clear of Auckland Grammar with St Kent's and Westlake a further five points back.
