The accolades continue for Rangitoto College student Terenzo Bozzone. Just a day after collecting the North Harbour junior sportsman of the year award and the overall North Harbour sporting excellence award, he picked up the Auckland college young sportsman of the year award, too.
Bozzone, 17, won the college sport title as the world duathlon and world triathlon champion and has been unbeaten in the sport for three years.
He won double titles at the triathlon world championships in Cancun, Mexico, this month, adding to his world junior duathlon success in October in the United States.
He also won the college sport allrounder award for his efforts in the sports of cross country, cycling and triathlon and other individual sports awards for cross country/road running and triathlon.
His record helped him to achieve his North Harbour awards ahead of sailor Thomas Ashley and rugby's Luke McAlister in the junior division. He then succeeded in winning the overall award where all category winners were put forward.
Bozzone became the second consecutive junior sportsman to receive the overall North Harbour sporting excellence award, following on from sailor Michael Bullot last year.
At the North Harbour awards, sportsman of the year was Tall Black Kirk Penney ahead of weightlifter Nigel Avery and swimmer Dean Kent.
Li Chun Li, the winner of four table tennis medals at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, including one gold, won the sportswoman's award, sailor Kelly Riechelmann won the junior sportswoman award and yachting coach John Clinton was coach of the year and Steve Walsh jnr was the referee/umpire of the year.
The North Harbour Sevens rugby team who were three-time defending champions at the nationals and finished runner-up just recently were the team of the year.
The college sport young sportswoman of the year was Commonwealth Games swimming finalist Melissa Ingram, of Epsom Girls Grammar School.
