New Zealand canoeist Ben Fouhy suffered a narrow defeat in the K1 1000m final at a World Cup regatta in Germany yesterday. The 2004 Olympic silver medallist was pipped at the line by Canadian Adam Van Koeverden.
Fouhy was just 00.75 of a second behind Van Koeverden's 3m 42.173s. Reigning Olympic champion Eric Veras Larsen, of Norway, was third in 3m 45.133s. A fortnight ago Fouhy won another World Cup race when he narrowly edged out Van Koeverden and achieved the fastest time recorded over 1000m.
