Cameron Brown, a 10-time winner of the New Zealand Ironman, will compete in the Taupo Half Ironman on Saturday.
Brown will be racing on familiar circuits in Taupo where he has dominated the full ironman for many years but will face strong competition from previous winner Kieran Doe, twice runner-up Keegan Williams and Brodie Madgwick, who was fourth last year and second in 2009.
Doe, first in the 2km swim, 90km cycle and 21km run event in 2008, said training was going well. "I'm ticking along nicely at the moment and currently into a big mileage," he said.
The leading women in the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain sponsored event are Samantha Warriner, Belinda Harper - who won last year - and Gina Crawford.
Warriner won the New Zealand Ironman in March, was fifth in the UK Ironman 70.3 in June and fifth in the Frankfurt Ironman in July.
