The state funeral for motor racing legend Peter Brock is underway in Melbourne.
The 61-year-old died on September 8 when his car hit a tree during the Targa West rally near Perth.
Thousands of people, including family, friends and fans, have packed St Paul's Anglican Cathedral to farewell the nine-times Bathurst winner.
Many of those gathered are dressed in Brock's racing team colours and a number are carrying banners paying tribute to his life.
A long list of politicians, motor racing figures and sporting identities are in attendance, among them Brock's long-time racing rival Alan Moffat, America's Cup winning skipper John Bertrand and marathon runner Steve Moneghetti.
Brock's brother Lewis, daughter Alexandra and Collingwood footballer Peter Daicos are among those who will pay tribute to him.
Federal Liberal MP Fran Bailey will speak on behalf of Prime Minister John Howard.
Motor racing commentator Neil Crompton will deliver the eulogy.
A didgeridoo player was to be heard throughout today's service, while close friend, Aurora Kurth, will sing a song from one of Brock's favourites, John Denver.
