Brad Shields' expected showdown against the All Blacks in November is in doubt.
The former Hurricanes captain and flanker may miss England's internationals after breaking his cheekbone in his first match for Wasps in the English Premiership at the weekend.
The New Zealand-born flanker, who was on the All Blacks' radar, made his controversial debut for England against South Africa in June. He played two tests for Eddie Jones' side.
Wasps estimate the 27-year-old, who will see a specialist to see if an operation is necessary, will be out for three to eight weeks.
Bad luck has dogged Shields since finding himself at the centre of an eligiblity row between New Zealand and England.
