New Zealands Terenzo Bozzone leads the field off the 180km bike at Kelloggs Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand and while there is still plenty of running to do and time on the clock, the Aucklander is threatening a fairy tale win at his home IRONMAN event.
Bozzone has been on the podium five times since his debut in 2008 but has never stood on the highest step, a win would be hugely emotional for Bozzone and his family who are watching both Terenzo and his brother Dino race (Dino making his IRONMAN debut), but also the huge crowd lining the run course and the finish line area at the Great Lakes Centre.
Hot on the heels of Bozzone however was Joe Skipper (GBR), they entered transition together, before Bozzone put 48 seconds on the Brit inside the first 3km of the run. The main chase group was over five minutes behind, and included Mike Phillips, Simon Cochrane, Dylan McNeice and Cameron Brown.
In the womens race it was Jocelyn McCauley (USA) and Laura Siddall (GBR) riding into transition together (7km left to ride), with a small lead over debutant Kiwi Teresa Adam who earlier led out of the water.
Top 5 men at the end of the bike:
1. Terenzo Bozzone NZ 5:14.17

3. Mike Phillips NZ 5:19.33
