A decision is still pending over the fate of an 11-year-old rugby player who allegedly punched a referee during an Under 12s match.
The Papatoetoe Rugby Football Club player was seen to tackle and punch the referee after receiving a yellow card for a head-high tackle to an opposing Marist Eastern player during their match last month.
A hearing before an independent disciplinary committee organised as per Auckland Rugby Union rules took place last night.
According to a statement from the union, the panel was still considering what action to take over the incident - believed to be the most serious ever reported at a junior rugby match.
The maximum penalty is a lifetime ban from the sport.
