“We don’t go out too often because it’s freezing here. But the hotel’s bubbling and full of people. People are going to know who Mea is come [Sunday], but at the moment Ellie is the person they all want to talk to.”
Motu goes into the bout with a 20-0 professional record, with eight of those wins by stoppage.
Scotney holds a 9-0 record, with all nine fights going the distance. Scotney has had a tougher strength of schedule, however, including about against New Zealand-born former IBF world title holder Cherneka Johnson.
Leading up to this weekend’s bout, Peach Boxing brought Johnson into the gym for sparring to help prepare Motu for the task at hand.
“She had a couple of nice little tips. She shared 10 rounds with her [Scotney], so she passed on a couple of nice little tips that I’ve worked on,” Peach said of Johnson.
“We’ll take it as it comes. You can’t make game plans that are going to stick except your own. We’ve got an A, B and C. We’ve got an idea of how we want the fight to go but we can adjust if we need to. We’re ready for 10 rounds. We’ve been doing all the hard work, but if we can finish it earlier, of course we’d want to.”
As for Motu, Peach said the 35-year-old was ready for her moment.
“Mea doesn’t worry about Ellie at all. She’s just worried about herself and putting on a good show. To be honest, I don’t think Ellie’s anything to Mea. Mea’s just focusing on herself and she’s raring to go,” he said.
“Just have fun. Just smile and have fun. If she can do that, she’ll win. Don’t take it too seriously, don’t make too big a deal of it in your own mind. Just get in there; another day, another fight.”
