"He is probably likely to plead guilty.''
Tutaki is due to reappear later today for Ms Holmes to consider his application for bail.
Tutaki was to fight All Blacks' star Sonny Bill Williams at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton next month but the fight was cancelled after the Weekend Herald revealed Tutaki was facing serious criminal charges.
Fight promoters had been previously unaware of the charges.
Police spokesman Inspector Gary Allcock told the newspaper that Tutaki was arrested last Tuesday at his girlfriend's home in Wiri, south Auckland.
It is understood that Tutaki had trained either very little or not at all for the fight, and there were concerns in boxing circles about his physical and mental condition.
One boxing source told the newspaper that there was no way Tutaki, a 40-fight journeyman who calls himself Tutaki Express Train and has a record of 19 wins and 21 losses, was in a fit state to enter the ring.
The fight for the vacant New Zealand heavyweight title was sanctioned by the Boxing Association.
Williams' camp yesterday announced Clarence Tillman III would be the replacement opponent for the bout.
Tillman, 34, is a 136kg, 1.96cm fighter with a record of 21 fights, 11 wins, eight losses and two draws.
The late-notice change of opponent would make the fight a "huge challenge'', Williams said yesterday.
"Tillman is a quality fighter, so I will have to put in the extra yards over the next three and a half weeks and change my fight plan accordingly.''
Williams earlier described Tutaki pulling out as one of the biggest setbacks of his boxing career.
