Australian Olympic boxer Peter Wakefield can expect a storm following revelations yesterday of involvement in a vicious home invasion.
The 26-year-old, who is tipped to win a medal in the 48kg division, has had his bail conditions tailored to allow him to travel to Greece.
Wakefield, the winner of his division at the Oceania championships in May, has denied being part of a gang who allegedly broke into an Adelaide home and beat a man with a baseball bat and iron bar in August 2002.
Wakefield, nicknamed "Pistol Pete", has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, resulting in bodily harm, and aggravated serious criminal trespass in a place of residence.
He was arrested and charged in October 2002.
His trial, to be held in conjunction with two other accused, has been delayed to June of next year because of the Games.
Australian Olympic Committee media director Mike Tancred said Wakefield should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
