KEY POINTS:
New Zealand heavyweight David Tua's journey for another title fight remained on track after beating American Robert Hawkins in New York tonight.
Tua, who improved his record to 47-3-1, was awarded a unanimous points decision after the fight went the full 10 rounds.
It was Tua's fifth straight win since returning to the ring two years ago after his career was disrupted by a legal battle with his former management team of Kevin Barry and Martin Pugh.
After the fight the 34-year-old Tua said he still needed two or three more fights before he could contend for a title.
Tua's solitary title bout came in 2000 when he lost a clear-cut decision to British champion Lennox Lewis.
