Boxer David Tua may not have stepped into the ring for almost 18 months but New Zealand's betting agency believes he will be too good for Shane Cameron when they meet in June.
The TAB has opened its book for the fight, touted as the biggest in New Zealand boxing history, with Tua the $1.50 favourite to beat Cameron, who will open at $2.50.
TAB boxing bookie Mark Stafford today said the quality of opponents fought by Tua during his 16-year professional career tipped the odds his way.
"While Tua has been out of commission for a long time, he has met far better fighters than Cameron," Stafford said.
"We realise that we are taking a big risk with Cameron at $2.50 because he has been active of late, but Tua has far greater experience in big fights".
A venue for the fight, guaranteeing both fighters a purse of $500,000, has yet to be announced, with Auckland or Wellington the favoured options.
