Only one New Zealand boxer is on the road to the Olympics after the finals of the Oceania championships in Tonga last night.
Soulan Pownceby will have his name put forward to the New Zealand Olympic Committee for selection after defeating Australian Ben McEachran 25-20 for the light heavyweight title.
Fellow kiwi Jamie Gardner wasn't as lucky, beaten by an Australian boxer in the featherweight division.
New Zealand women's welterweight Daniella Smith and middleweight Pono Rangi both won gold after beating Australian opponents in the finals.
However, women's boxing is not an Olympic sport.
