Boxing: 'No dramas' over Cameron's hand, says fight promoter

The promoter of New Zealand boxing's "Fight of the Century" says there are "no dramas" over an injury to Shane Cameron's right hand.

Cameron, whose heavyweight showdown with David Tua is scheduled for Hamilton on June 6, got the injury in his bout with American Robert Davis in Gisborne 10 days ago.

His manager, Ken Reinsfield, today gave notice of a press conference tomorrow to talk about the extent of the problem.

Both Reinsfield and fight promoter Duco were reluctant to comment ahead of the press conference.

Duco director David Higgins said he was aware of the situation.

"As far as I'm concerned, there's no dramas," he said.

Asked if the injury was serious enough that it might force a postponement of the bout, Higgins replied: "All I will say is that the Fight of the Century is on, it's happening."

Cameron, who stopped Davis in the 11th round of a scheduled 12-round contest, had previously hurt the hand in training.

Reinsfield said the injury he suffered during the bout happened in the third round when Cameron caught Davis on the top of the head.

"He knew he had done it, but he didn't complain about it until later," he said.

"After the fight, his hand was swollen up. He couldn't make a fist."

Reinsfield said nothing was mentioned about the injury on the night because "we didn't want to make any excuses".
