Aucklander Pelea Fruean is leaving the Youth World Boxing Championships in Budapest after being beaten in her second fight.
The 17-year-old, who is Joseph Parker's first cousin and competes in the women's 60kg category, made the final 16 but was beaten by Jony from India by a narrow points decision. Three judges had Jony winning by three points, and two by one point.
Fruean won her first fight against Tsui Hsueh-Tzu of Taipei by a wide scorecard from all five judges. Four judges had it by a margin of seven points and one by four points.
Fruean, the only New Zealander at the championships, is targeting a place at the 2020 Olympics in Japan.
"We are really proud of her performance," said Mark Keddell, New Zealand Boxing's high performance director. "She is a future star for us and we are looking forward to further developing her to get to the Olympics and being competitive there."
