Kiwi middleweight boxer Gunnar Jackson retained his WBO Oriental title with a majority decision victory over Australian Nathan Carroll on the North Shore last night.
In a tough, close and bruising encounter, Jackson did enough to please two of the three judges, while the other had it even, and his handlers are hoping to push him towards an overseas bout this year. The win took Jackson's career record to 21-5-3.
Jackson, 28, is ranked 15th in the WBO but that may change following this victory. Carroll is a former Australian champion with a respectable 10-3-1 record.
