Next year's Fight For Life seems likely to take place in Sydney as organisers Duco Events look to cash in on the lucrative Australian pay per view television market.
The league versus union boxing fight night has become a popular fixture on the Auckland summer calendar. However, promoter Dean Lonergan has confirmed he is planning a State of Origin-themed card for December next year that will pit protagonists from the fiery inter-state league competition against each other.
The congested league and rugby seasons mean there is only a brief window in early December when the event can be held. It would not be possible to hold two shows in that time, meaning the Auckland fight night would be shelved for at least a year if Sydney goes ahead.
Another concept for the Australian event would pit league players against Aussie Rules stars.
"We will make this happen," Mr Lonergan told an Australian newspaper. "We want it to be in Sydney and will begin to scout locations early next year."
