New Zealand heavyweight boxing title contender David Tua is likely to keep his unusual, sticking-up hairstyle for the world title shot against Lennox Lewis at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay casino next month - unless his dad, Tuavale, makes him change.
His father has not liked the style and Tua respects his father's wishes.
When he is at his parents' Mangere home, he combs and gels it down, and wears hats.
When they last spoke, Tua told his father he liked the style and wanted to keep it.
"Hey, it's only a hairdo, I have to feel good," he said.
His dad agreed, then reiterated that he did not like it.
The stick-up style is completely natural.
The only thing that usually goes in his hair is lemon juice, no chemicals or agents used to achieve the Don King lookalike style.
In the past he has gone for new haircuts just before fights simply for a change in routine. In camp, Tua has been joking that the hairstyle gives him a few inches to cut down Lewis' size advantage.
Boxing: Dad may yet have last word on that distinctive hairstyle
