Twelve charities are splitting $US200,000 ($488,492) that heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson was fined for refusing to submit to a pre-fight drug test last year at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Tyson paid the fine as part of a settlement with the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services. He refused to submit to a urine test before his October 20 fight against Andrew Golota, who quit after the second round.
Tyson tested positive for marijuana in a test taken after the fight, according to a complaint filed by the state.
But the settlement made no mention of that positive test, and Tyson has never been tried on that charge.
The money will go to groups that help at-risk children as well as several youth boxing associations.
