Anthony Mundine made a triumphant return to the boxing ring in Townsville, beating local prison guard Brad Mayo in a unanimous points decision.
Mundine had the upper hand in the fight from the first, but Mayo - who has not fought in a year - put in a gutsy effort to last the distance. The judges returned decisions of 100-90, 100-91, 100-89.
The fight was Mundine's first since a 10th-round knockout at the hands of German Sven Ottke last December ended his bid for the world super middleweight title. Mundine's record is now 11 wins from 12 fights, eight by knockout.
