SYDNEY - New Zealand's involvement at the $A35,000 ($77,951) Golden Nugget bowls tournament is tenuous after mixed results on the second day at Tweed Heads, South Queensland, yesterday.
Marlene Castle had her second loss, 19-25, to Western Australia's Roma Dunn before beating Beth Quinlan of the Northern Territory 25-18.
Castle has one win from three matches and it is highly unlikely she will finish top of her six-woman pool after the two remaining matches today.
Only the top qualifier will advance.
New Zealand men Peter Belliss and Rowan Brassey also have the unfavourable record of one win from three.
Belliss lost both matches yesterday, to the two Australians who reached last year's final. He went down 13-25 to defending champion Adam Jeffery and 8-25 to Steve Anderson.
Brassey beat Australian singles champion Kelvin Kerkow 25-15 before going down 21-25 to Alan Monfries.
