Marlene Castle took centre stage in more ways than one at the inaugural Bowls North Harbour awards function.
The former world indoor singles champion and present New Zealand team member was the first of two guest speakers at yesterday's lunch.
Later, Castle was back on stage at North Harbour Stadium to receive the bowler of the year trophy - heading Paulette Mytton, who teamed with Castle to win the national pairs title, and Glen Pepper, the only senior player to win two centre titles.
The Milford Combined club won the club of the year award and had the added satisfaction of seeing club member Don Manson named official of the year following his election to the World Bowls board.
Cate Davies was named umpire of the year.
Anne Hellier took the coaching award.
