The Black Jacks combination of Mandy Boyd, Jan Khan and Lisa White bagged New Zealand's second World Championship silver medal at the Lockleys Bowls Club in Adelaide today.
After an even first half in the 15-end final which saw scores locked at 7-7 after seven, the New Zealanders were always on the back foot against the strong Australian team of Karen Murphy, Lynsey Armitage and Natasha Van Eldik.
Despite the Black Jacks' best efforts, Australia played supremely over the concluding stages to fashion a 21-9 score line.
Boyd, the 21-year-old Black Jacks skipper, demonstrated why she has been touted as having a big future in the sport. Her performance in the main event and throughout the entire campaign belied her tender years, with a deft touch on the draw combined with accuracy making her the complete package.
The Black Jacks have two more medals to collect at these championships, with only the hues to be decided. Shannon McIlroy faces Australian Leif Selby tomorrow morning (NZT), with a bronze medal already banked but gold or silver on offer if he prevails in their world singles semifinal clash.
