KEY POINTS:
Auckland's Justin Goodwin and Waikato's Kevin Robinson continued a purple patch of bowls form yesterday by winning the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club's pairs classic.
Part of the powerful lineup Peter Belliss skipped a fortnight ago to the national fours title, Goodwin playing lead and Robinson skipping comfortably accounted for a pair from the host club, Chris Warren and Bill Jones, 19-7.
In the semifinals Goodwin and Robinson had an equally decisive win over Rowan Brassey and his young lead, Brooke Tippett, and Warren and Jones just edged out the 2001 champions, the Hickey father-son combination of Maurice and Paul.
It was Goodwin's first win in this long-established pairs competition, but a second success for Robinson, who won with another Waikato bowler, Neville Risbridge, in 1999.
Robinson also made the 2006 final, with Steve Posa.
Last year's winners, Mike Reid and Allan Stewart, from Thames Valley, won the plate.
