Onehunga's Dan Delaney and Chris Le Lievre were a class apart at the national interclub pairs bowls tournament which finished in Hamilton yesterday, marching to the title in unbeaten style.
Switching the venue from a weather-affected outdoor venue at Rotorua to an indoor rink at the Frankton Railway club didn't affect the Auckland duo.
They won four of their matches and drew the fifth, against Tauranga South pair Eddie Irving and Iain Dalton who placed second. It capped an excellent month for skipper Delaney, who was recently named Auckland Bowler of the Year.
The women's title went to the final end, with Dot Palmer and Robyn Martin of Taupo snatching a 14-13 win over Liffy Law and Lois Johnson of Havelock North in their last match to seal victory.
Going into the fifth and final round, virtually any of the six-strong field could have won the title, although Palmer and Martin ended up as the only pair with four wins.
