KEY POINTS:
The national coach will now head a single selection panel for New Zealand's bowls teams.
Bowls NZ chief executive Kerry Clark said yesterday that the system of separate panels for men and women's teams had been abandoned.
The new panel consists of national coach Dave Edwards as convener and two former New Zealand representatives, Colleen Ferrick from Hawkes Bay and Terry Scott from Dunedin.
"The new system automatically sees the national coach as the chairman of the panel.
"We have endorsed the 'one team' approach and have been deliberately emphatic about this in the last couple of years - this is an extension of that approach," Clark said.
Edwards said a selection panel for both teams signalled a new era.
Ferrick played for New Zealand at the Pacific Games and Commonwealth Games in Canada in 1993 and 1994, winning a bronze medal at the Victoria Commonwealth Games as a member of the women's fours.
Scott, whose international career lasted from 1985 to 1990, is a double national champion. He has worked extensively as a coach and selector at provincial level.
Clark also paid tribute to four retiring selectors Bruce Malcolm and the women's panel of Ann Muir, Joy Lynch and Raelene Peters.
The other men's selector, Peter Kean, withdrew before the world championships.
* Russell Meyer notched two wins yesterday to put his Champions of Champions world singles title quest in Aberdeen, Scotland, back on track. Meyer beat opponents from the Philippines and Guernsey to improve his record to three wins and three defeats.
