Black Jacks Jo Edwards and Val Smith have reunited for the national bowls championships, which start in Taranaki today.
The longtime friends were split for the recent world champs, but will again play together in the women's pairs, seeking their third national title.
World champion Black Jack Ali Forsyth is lining up in the men's singles and is enjoying being in another part of the country, having spent a lot of their year in Christchurch.
He says it's good to go to places you don't get to go to very often.
Section play in the men's singles and women's pairs will get underway at 8:30am.
