KEY POINTS:
The national men's and women's lawn bowls championships start on Canterbury greens today, with the headquarters the Papanui club, which will be one of the support greens for the world championships starting on January 12.
The championships, sponsored by Dorchester and Hyundai, begin with section play in the men's pairs and section play in the women's singles.
Men's pairs section play will continue tomorrow when the women's pairs section play start. On Sunday the men's singles section play will continue and the women's pairs section play will continue.
On Monday, New Year's Eve, the men's pairs post-section play will start, concluding on Tuesday, New Year's Day.
The women's singles post-section play will start on Monday, continuing on Tuesday.
On Wednesday the men's singles post-section play will start as will post-section play in the women's pairs.
Both singles and pairs finals are scheduled for Friday, January 4.
Section play qualifying for both the men's and women's fours will start on Saturday, January 5. Post-section play in both events starts on Monday, January 7, and the two finals will be held on Wednesday, January 8.
Singles games are the first to 21 shots, pairs and fours are over 18 ends.
