KEY POINTS:
A strong Auckland centre composite lineup skippered by Pakuranga's Mike Nasey won the Browns Bay club's open triples tournament on the North Harbour yesterday.
Nasey, with Gary Breckon at two and Joe Whitelaw at skip, completed the two-day event with a 100 per cent record, winning all eight of their matches to take the first prize of $1500.
The only other combination which went through unbeaten was that of Mairangi's Con Kater, Des Lowe and Brian Rogers, but one of its games resulted in a draw.
Takapuna's Chris Taylor, Paul Freeth and Trevor Forward pipped two of the celebrated skips in the field, Ivan Kostanich and Ross Haresnape, for third place.
Haresnape, skipping two of the Harbour centre's best bowlers, John Walker and Colin Rogan, won all four matches yesterday but could not overcome a slow opening day on Saturday.
Meanwhile, former international Rowan Brassey, partnered by a promising Auckland centre junior Brooke Tippett, made today's semifinals of the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club's pairs.
The other semifinalists are Paul and Maurice Hickey, Chris Warren and Bill Jones from the host club and two members of the recent national championship winning four, Kevin Robinson and Justin Goodwin.
